I love Fantasy Premier League. Genuinely. It engages me, frustrates me, and gives me real joy in ways that surprise people who don’t play.

Part of it is the strategy. Part of it is the constraints: a fixed budget, a limited number of moves, rules that don’t bend for anyone. I’ve come to appreciate that. The boundaries aren’t the obstacle. They’re the game.

And then there’s the tinkering. Hours of it, especially before season kickoff – this week. Weighing one option against another, talking myself in and out of the same transfer three times.

But here’s what I’ve actually learned, and it took a few seasons to sink in: planning helps, and staying on top of it every single week is non-negotiable. The players who win aren’t the ones who nail one incredible week. They’re the ones who show up, week after week, and stay consistent even when it’s unglamorous.

I see the same pattern with the founders and leaders I work with. Everyone remembers the launch that crushed it or the quarter that broke every number. Almost nobody talks about the quiet discipline of showing up the same way the following week, and the one after that.

One-week wonders make for a great story. They rarely build a great business.

I think about that a lot now when I’m making transfers on a Friday night. It’s not really about the points. It’s about whether I did the work again this week, the same as I did last week.

Consistency over an entire season beats a one-week wonder. Every time.

I didn’t expect a fantasy football app to teach me that. But it did.
