I’ve banked with the same institution for decades.
Not because they’re remarkable. They’re not. Global, established, perfectly functional, and about as inspiring as watching paint dry. I stayed because it was easier than leaving. Convenience masquerading as loyalty.
I had quietly made peace with it.
Then, out of nowhere, I got a call. A real person. Introducing themselves. Saying simply: ‘I’m here, and I’d like to support you.’ Nothing rehearsed, nothing scripted. Just presence.
I was stunned. Genuinely.
What followed surprised me even more. New conversations. Real developments. Outcomes that benefited both of us. Momentum that hadn’t existed the week before.
None of it came from technology. None of it came from a new product or a redesigned app or a polished campaign. It came from one person choosing to pick up the phone and say: you matter to us.
That’s it.
I think about this with my own clients constantly. We obsess over systems, decks, strategies, and dashboards. And sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply call someone and say: I see you. I’m paying attention. How can I help?
It costs nothing. It changes everything.
