“How do you write every day?”

People ask this about the daily musing we’ve sent for years. The answer isn’t willpower or extraordinary discipline.

It’s small, consistent deposits.

I don’t write one email each morning. I write one or two each day, building a reserve of hundreds ready to deploy. The hard thing becomes easy through divided effort. Yet, the practice constantly forces me to be curious and observant.

Compound interest isn’t just for money. It works for everything valuable.

Great companies aren’t built through occasional heroic pushes. They grow through relentless minor improvements. Daily deposits that seem insignificant until you look back and see the mountain you’ve built.

James Clear in his book Atomic Habits states “Small habits, when repeated consistently, lead to remarkable results.” Yet leaders consistently undervalue small actions in favor of grand gestures.

The team that improves its process by 1% daily becomes unrecognizable in a year. The leader who reads twenty pages nightly transforms their thinking in months. The organization that eliminates one unnecessary meeting weekly reclaims thousands of productive hours annually.

This approach requires something increasingly rare: patience. We’ve become addicted to immediacy – overnight success, viral growth, instant results.

But sustainable greatness doesn’t work that way.

When Warren Buffett was asked about his investment strategy, he replied: “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”

Your leadership philosophy must embrace this truth: the daily deposit matters more than the occasional windfall. The regular practice outperforms the sporadic sprint.

Ask your team: What small contribution can you make every day? What tiny improvement can become our standard? What minimal viable action repeated would transform everything?

Excellence isn’t mysterious. It’s methodical. The remarkable results everyone sees come from unremarkable consistency nobody notices.
